Two hands reaching out to each other

You don’t need to grapple with things on your own.

I will take care to really listen to you and take time to explore who you are.

Having someone who really wants to be alongside you at a difficult time can make a real difference and the process of sharing can bring a considerable feeling of relief.

I’m warm, sensitive, and able to “hold” your difficult emotions. My aim is for you to leave each session feeling seen, heard and supported. Often it is the fear of someone’s reaction that can hold us back even though we really need to talk. The therapy relationship allows you to explore what is on your mind in a more open and honest way than might be possible in your day-today relationships.

Knowing when you need help, and asking for it, takes honesty and courage. Lots of people feel nervous talking to a stranger to begin with, and I intend to make the process as comfortable as possible. I know that it can often feel like a really big step, but taking that step also  brings the hope of change.

Full information about my counselling practice, including confidentiality, how sessions work, and other aspects of working together, will be provided before we commence counselling. This ensures you have a clear understanding of my practice arrangements and gives you the opportunity to discuss any questions before therapy begins.

How will we work together?

I offer a blend of person-centred psychotherapy and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or tapping) tailored to suit you. EFT is a somatic mind-body therapy and can be a soothing and calming anchor when emotions are running high. It’s also a great way as a way of processing difficult past experiences without overwhelm and works very well alongside the exploration involved in psychotherapy.

As a person-centred psychotherapist I work with warm respect and understanding for your life and everything that has led you to be where you are and might be keeping you stuck. I believe that underneath, you know what you need, even when you can’t see the woods for the trees and everything just feels like a mess. Balancing questions, gentle challenge and space for reflection,  I help you to know yourself better, paving the way for new perspectives and choices.  Together, we might come up with different ways of approaching things so that you’re better equipped for when life throws up another unexpected challenge.

If you are expecting instant results I may not be the therapist for you because I am usually at my best working at depth. But please don’t be worried by that as things develop gradually and you may be surprised at how this happens naturally. It may take a little time to get used to the process and to talking with me, and sometimes people tell me that they worried about it beforehand but it actually flowed once we got started

Research consistently shows that one of the biggest influences on how therapy progresses is how well you ‘gel’ with your therapist and the working relationship we develop together. Although I hope this website gives a flavour of who I am, you can only really find out if we might fit by speaking with me. Please do get in touch so that we can arrange that.
